HISTORY OF FRESHWATER PROJECT

Malawi Freshwater Project was formed in 1995, by a group of concerned Malawians, to address the need for safe drinking water in Malawi. In it’s 10 years of operation, Freshwater has evolved to provide a greater focus on sanitation as well as training – to address the sustainability of our programs.

 

ORGANISATIONAL STRUCTURE:

Freshwater is registered under the Trustees Act of Malawi and the board of trustees is headed by the Chairman, the Very Reverent Father C.A. Kaswaya. There are three other trustees.

 

The day-to-day operations of the organization are headed by Mr Charles Banda (Executive Director).

About Mr. Charles Banda

He is one of the founding members and current Executive Director of Freshwater Project. He founded the organization while working as a fireman at Chileka Airport and when he ferried.  Members of the FGBFI Newton Abbot Chapter UK people while operating his taxi at the airport. The UK people promised to sponsor the water project to support the preaching activities which he used to do during week ends. Apart from being a fireman and preacher, Mr. Banda studied social work (Community Development) in Arusha, Tanzania and also audited a Masters Class at Graduate School for Social Work, University of Denver, Colorado, USA. With project management course which he acquired locally, Mr. Banda has successfully managed Freshwater Project. He is the driving force behind the success of the organization. He brings many skills to the organization, but his main strength lies in his integrity and his commitment to the objectives of the organization.
